The revenue has been earned through advertisements displayed at railway stations, on trains, and across various railway-owned properties. With millions of passengers using the railway network daily, stations and trains have become high-visibility platforms for advertisers.
To further boost earnings, Indian Railways is actively expanding digital advertising infrastructure. This includes the installation of LED screens, video walls, digital display boards, and modern signage at major and high-footfall stations under its Rail Display Network policy. Several railway zones have already awarded contracts to private agencies for managing these digital assets.
Officials say the move not only improves passenger information systems but also helps attract premium advertisers, increasing revenue without raising ticket fares. The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to strengthen non-fare revenue sources and reduce dependence on passenger earnings.
With continued modernization and digital expansion, advertising is expected to play an even bigger role in Indian Railways’ future income growth.
