Protests Erupt in Arunachal Pradesh Over Controversial Remarks from Bangladesh, Thousands Join Mashal Rally

Widespread protests were reported across several parts of Arunachal Pradesh after controversial remarks made by individuals in Bangladesh triggered strong public outrage in the northeastern state. In response, thousands of residents participated in a large mashal (torch) rally, expressing anger and concern over statements perceived as disrespectful to India’s sovereignty and the identity of the Northeast.

The demonstrations, organised by local civil society groups, student unions, and community organisations, remained largely peaceful. Protesters carried torches, placards, and the national flag, while raising slogans demanding respect for India’s territorial integrity and the dignity of Arunachal Pradesh. Many participants emphasised that such remarks undermine the historical, cultural, and constitutional status of the state as an integral part of India.

According to organisers, the mashal rally aimed to send a strong message of unity and national solidarity. Speakers at the protest highlighted the strategic importance of Arunachal Pradesh and reiterated that the people of the region reject any narrative that questions India’s borders or the identity of its northeastern states.

Local leaders and activists urged the central government to take note of public sentiment and respond firmly through diplomatic channels. They also called on authorities to counter misinformation and ensure that false or provocative claims do not strain regional peace and international relations.

State officials confirmed that security arrangements were put in place to maintain law and order during the protests. No major incidents were reported, and normal life resumed after the rallies concluded.

The incident reflects long-standing sensitivities in the Northeast regarding external comments on territorial and national identity. Observers note that such protests underline the strong sense of patriotism among residents and their demand for greater awareness and respect toward the region at both national and international levels.
