Widespread protests were reported across several parts of Arunachal Pradesh after controversial remarks made by individuals in Bangladesh triggered strong public outrage in the northeastern state. In response, thousands of residents participated in a large mashal (torch) rally, expressing anger and concern over statements perceived as disrespectful to India’s sovereignty and the identity of the Northeast.
The demonstrations, organised by local civil society groups, student unions, and community organisations, remained largely peaceful. Protesters carried torches, placards, and the national flag, while raising slogans demanding respect for India’s territorial integrity and the dignity of Arunachal Pradesh.
