Mukesh Ambani Unveils Jio’s Mega AI Data Centre to Bring Affordable AI to Every Indian

A historic announcement was made at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference on January 11, 2026, when Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) corporate entity, noted that the vision of making accessible and affordable artificial intelligence available to Indians would soon become a reality because Jio would establish the country’s largest AI-ready data centre at Jamnagar, Gujarat.

“The Jamnagar facility would form the spine for the new ‘People-First’ Intelligence Platform to be created by Jio,” Ambani wrote on Twitter. “The new platform would enable people to access powerful AI services in local languages on their own devices, to improve their productivity,” he added.

"In Jamnagar, we are constructing the country’s largest ‘AI-ready’ data center with one purpose only: ‘affordable AI for all Indians,’" stated Mr. Ambani in the conference.

Building AI Infrastructure with a Local Perspective

The data centre at Jamnagar will support various AI workloads and services such as natural language processing and local developments of AI tools. Through the provision of such services in India, the project is in line with the country’s priorities regarding sovereign data and privacy.

This is a larger plan of the company, Reliance, to develop Gujarat into a technology and clean energy zone. Ambani also stated that RIL will double its investment in Gujarat to ₹7 Lakh Crore (Approx. USD 78 Billion) in the next five years in the areas of AI Infrastructure, Clean Energy, Manufacturing, and Digital Services.

Economic and Social Impact

According to analysts, the proposed AI data center in Jamnagar could make India one of the dominant players in AI infrastructure around the world. The focus on affordability and language accessibility could help bridge the digital divide in both urban and rural settings. What’s Next for Jio’s AI Vision

Parallel to the development of the data centre, Jio has also set a plan to introduce its AI platform first within Gujarat, eventually covering the whole of India, possibly extending to the global level. The vision here is to turn AI tools into a common facility, not a specialist one, for individuals as well as businesses, small or large.

With this move, the Reliance Group is not only adding to its online presence but also contributing in achieving the vision to make India a leader in AI technology in the world.
