Google Pay has officially entered the credit card space in India with the launch of its first UPI-enabled RuPay credit card, introduced in partnership with Axis Bank. The new offering, called the Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card, allows users to make credit card payments directly through the UPI system within the Google Pay app.
The card is completely digital and paperless, enabling users to apply, get approved, and manage their credit card without visiting a bank branch. Built on the RuPay network, it can be used across merchants that accept RuPay cards and UPI payments, making it widely accessible.
One of the key highlights of the card is its UPI-based credit payment feature, which blends traditional credit card usage with India’s popular UPI ecosystem. The card also offers instant rewards, flexible repayment options, and real-time expense tracking through the app.
With this launch, Google Pay aims to simplify access to credit for Indian users and strengthen the integration of digital payments and lending. The move also reflects the growing adoption of RuPay and UPI-based credit solutions in India’s fast-evolving fintech landscape.
